About

Plog "with" us and support agriculture and the environment! Picking up trash has a greater impact than simply removing trash from the environment. Plogging keeps trash out of our waterways and toxins out of our soils! We greatly value the health of our natural resources (i.e., soil, water, air) and in turn, plogging supports a healthier environment.

ERICD

Our Vision
The Eastern Rhode Island Conservation District (ERICD) strives to promote and improve long-lasting and environmentally-friendly practices that protect natural resources such as soil, water, and air.

Our Mission
The ERICD aims to meet its vision through outreach, education, help with environmental questions, and financial aid for natural resource concerns. We work with a variety of people and groups including farmers, landowners, cities, towns, schools, and others in the community.

The ERICD is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors, consisting of five voting directors and several associate directors. These local individuals provide administrative guidance and focus on the actions of the Eastern District, which include the Newport and Bristol Counties.

NRICD

This year, the ERICD is partnering with the Northern Rhode Island Conservation District (NRICD) to bring the plogging fun to Providence County! Participants in the Northern RI region have a special opportunity when registering to support NRICD and win local prizes!

In Providence County, the NRICD works in partnership with private landowners, farmers, municipalities, state and federal agencies, as well as non-governmental agencies. The NRICD is not a regulatory or enforcement agency, but rather provides assistance to those who desire to work as a team to face issues -- watershed by watershed.

The NRICD projects and programs include the Scituate Reservoir Watershed Education Program, a partnership with Providence Water, the Providence County Urban Growers Leadership Program, and providing help with both outreach and technical assistance to the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service.

You can learn more about the NRICD by visiting their website, Instagram, or Facebook pages.

The ERICD is also partnering with Bike Newport, who are graciously co-hosting the Plike Newport Event with us in the Bike Newport parking lot in Newport, RI!

On Sunday, April 25th, Bike Newport and the ERICD will co-host an event called Plike Newport! “Pliking” is a word used to describe the action of picking up litter while biking. Our event will bring the community together in a COVID-safe way to ride bikes and pick up litter in Newport. The cleanup event falls directly in line with this year’s Aquidneck Island Earth Week theme of climate resilience. The very first Plike Newport will be held in the lot behind Bike Newport’s headquarters located at 62 Broadway. Participants will be provided with reusable bags and gloves to use while riding around town to pick up trash as well as some local goodies to stay fed and warm! Limited spots available for this in-person event! You can register for free here. Hope to see you there!

We encourage you to donate to this non-profit here.
