You don’t have to go far (from your house or in distance), you don’t have to be around other people, you don’t even have to go fast…

Just get out there and pick up trash!

April 25th is World Plogging Day.

What is Plogging?!

Who better to explain than Ashley Gutermuth, a New Jersey-based stand-up comedian?! Ashley is a daily plogging champion, with a running streak spanning over six years!

"During her runs she picks up litter because she was tired of her arms just going along for the ride."

Plogging is a combination of jogging while picking up litter (Swedish: plocka upp). It started as an organized activity in Sweden around 2016 and spread to other countries in 2018, following increased concern about plastic pollution.

This year, we are holding our second annual COVID-friendly plogging fundraiser, where people around the country can plog in their own neighborhoods, and tag us on social media in their photos. This is an effort to raise awareness about plastic pollution, clean up our neighborhoods, and fundraise for ERICD.

We welcome you to get creative with your plog! While plogging typically means jogging while picking up trash, you are encouraged to pick up trash during any activity, such as plocking (walking while picking up trash), pliking (biking to trash pickup hotspots), or even by "plogging" in your backyard or basement if you are confined to your home due to quarantine. A home plog may consist of filling a bag with items to donate when your quarantine is over! Plocks and home plog photo entries are still eligible for prizes!
